Amanda Bossard, fresh out of Anchorage High School the year 1992, began studying marine biology. Bossard started her commercial fishing career in 1999, after she was hired on board the ship F/V Sunset. The 65' schooner that was converted into a salmon tender was operated by Murat Aritan. Aritan has been involved in commercial fishing since 1993. Bossard and Aritan are now married and are working together to claim their place in their business. Both are advocates of saving and profiting from renewable resources in the fishing industry. In 2007, the mother of two children Bella aged 3 as well as Andre 1 Bossard then returning to living in Philadelphia established a direct market wholesale seafood distributor named Otolith. The name Otolith is a fond reference to Bossard's extensive experience with fish biology as well as her husband's extensive connections in the seafood business. They are often separated for up to 5 months each time they work towards financial and environmental goals which reflect their dedication and autonomy wherever they are. Bossard's daughters Isabella aged 12 and son Andre aged 10 come back each year for a visit to Southeast Alaska to work in the position of deckhand in the wild salmon season. After two months of fishing hooks along with lines and a 42-foot salmon trolling machine they have joined Aritan and were sold to local seafood processors.
